Of course, it has always been purported that geniuses are at least a little bit crazy.
Three studies were carried out. For the first study, over 500 participants were asked to fill in a questionnaire designed to pick up on narcissistic and sociopathic traits. For the second study, 250 college students were monitored for indications of being bold, disinhibited and mean.
For the third study, levels of excitement were monitored by the amount of electrical activity in the participant's skin whilst the participants were carrying out activities such as gambling exercises.
The results were published in peer reviewed journal, Personality and Individual Differences, and show how sociopathic traits may be integral to some creative personalities.
The three studies were led by Adrianne John Galang and showed that people with higher levels of creative genius were more likely to display antisocial traits including higher levels of risk-taking behaviour and dishonesty.
